| Climb
into the Cockpit of a “Flying Green Canoe”
In 2003, pilot
and photographer Ron Lowery (along with author and co-pilot
Mary Walker) flew his kit-built airplane over 14,000 miles
to retracing and photographing the route of Lewis and Clark.
In an open cockpit about the width of a canoe, they spent
three months following a watery river highway across the
country. The duo landed on Indian reservations, rancher’s
grass strips and met all manner of interesting characters
along the epic trail.
Lowery’s
photographs from this adventure provide a captivating show
that holds audiences spellbound. Shot along their odyssey
flying over this magnificent country, this wonderful program
offers a view not seen from an interstate or the window
of an airliner.
A behind-the-scenes
video follows that shows the plane under construction, preparation
for the trip, creative and logistical challenges, as well
as life along the trail. Mr. Lowery will answer photographic,
aviation and travel questions about the Lewis and Clark
trip and how others can plan their own version of retracing
the journey. The audio-visual presentation is based on his
new book of this adventure, Chasing Lewis & Clark
Across America: A 21st Century Aviation Adventure.
“I built
this plane for two reasons–first for photography,
second for exploring,” says Lowery. “For the
past three months, I have flown over landscapes that never
repeated but evolved like the view through a kaleidoscope.”
Whether your
audience is interested in history, aviation, photography,
travel or just enjoys a good adventure from the comfort
of a chair, this show will allow you to board their green
“canoe in the sky” and join them on their journey.
Chasing
Lewis & Clark Across America is Lowery and Walker’s
aerial salute to the courageous expedition of the Corps
of Discovery during the 200th Anniversary of the epic journey.
Their story and visual feast of photographs–with its
rich blend of American history, art, culture and a touch
of romance–will nourish your patriotic soul.
